Encina for Solaris(R) is a binary implementation of TransarcCorporation's Encina family of OLTP product for Sun(TM) SPARCstation(TM)running SunOS(TM) 4.1.3 or Solaris 2.3. Encina is designed to enabledistributed, standards-based on-line transaction processing (OLTP) inopen computing environments. The Encina product family provides amodular, multi-layered solution for commercial-grade OLTP in computingenterprises that span multiple locations, utilize computers from manyvendors and require access to data stored in a variety of relationaldatabases. , Based on the Open Software Foundation's (OSF) DistributedComputing Environment (DCE), standard Encina components include thefollowing * Encina Base Services, which provide Transactional C,Transactional RPC and the Distributed Transaction Service. * EncinaServer Core, which extends the Base Services to support the storage andmaintenance of recoverable data. * Encina Monitor, which builds on theservices of the Base Services, Server Core and OSF DCE to provideextensive support for OLTP applications. Included are a developmentenvironment which supports the programming or integration of distributedTP applications, a secure execution environment that ensures highperformance and transactional integrity, and an effective administrativeenvironment that enables the configuration and management of adistributed system as a cohesive unit. * Encina Structured File Service(SFS), which is a record-oriented file system that provides transactionalintegrity, high performance, log-based recovery for fast restarts andbroad stability to support very large databases. SFS leverages theunderlying Base Services, Server Core and OSF DCE to support remoteaccess, two-phase commit and on-line backup and restore. * EncinaRecoverable Queuing Service (RQS), which provides for the transactionalenqueuing and dequeuing of data. RQS allows transactional tasks to bequeued for processing while ensuring that system failures do not resultin lost information. RQS provides multiple levels of priority and scalesto support large numbers of users and high volumes of data. * EncinaPeer-to-Peer Communication Services, comprised of the PPC Executive andPPC Gateway/SNA, support transactional CPI-C peer-to-peer communicationover both the TCP/IP and SNA (LU6.2) transports. Unique to Transarc,Encina can delivery full sync-level 2 services (two-phase commit), andEncina applications can communicate over SNA/LU6.2 to mainframe systemsthat support LU6.2 (such as IBM's CICS) with no modifications required onthe mainframe.
